Our Pre-Early Childhood classroom at Meadow Montessori is a gentle bridge, a dedicated space with its own teacher, designed to build the independence, confidence, and readiness your child needs before stepping into our Early Childhood community. This isn’t a delay. It’s an intentional next step, thoughtfully paced to meet your child exactly where they are.

Why This Stage Matters

Our Pre-Early Childhood classroom gives children the space to grow at their own pace. With a dedicated teacher and an environment built around where they are right now, children build the independence, maturity, and confidence that make the eventual move into Early Childhood feel natural, not overwhelming.

A Day in the Pre-EC Classroom

Each day at Meadow Montessori is thoughtfully designed to build independence, confidence, and readiness for what comes next. Our Pre-Early Childhood classroom serves children ages 2.5 to 3.5 and prepares them for a smooth, confident transition into Early Childhood.

Warm Welcome & Arrival

Children are greeted by caring teachers and settle into the classroom at their own pace. Morning routines encourage independence as children unpack belongings, greet friends, and prepare for the day ahead.

Montessori Work Cycle

The work cycle is the heart of our school day. During this uninterrupted work period, children receive individualized lessons, practice previously learned skills, and choose meaningful activities based on their readiness and interests. This extended period of focused work builds concentration, independence, and confidence.

Enrichment & Special Programs

Throughout the week, children participate in music, gardening, and cooking activities. These experiences build creativity, curiosity, and social confidence in a small classroom community.

Outdoor Play & Movement

Outdoor time is an important part of every day. Children develop coordination, strength, and social skills through active play, exploration, and group games.

Lunch & Community Time

Lunch provides an opportunity for children to practice independence, responsibility, and social skills in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Rest

After lunch, children settle into a nap or quiet rest period, a comforting and consistent part of each day.

Why might a child move to Pre-EC instead of going straight to Early Childhood?

Every child develops at their own pace, and moving into Pre-EC simply means your child is getting an environment matched exactly to where they are right now. It's a natural next step, not something to worry about, and many children who spend a year here move into Early Childhood with more confidence and readiness than if they'd transitioned earlier.

What does a typical day look like in the Pre-EC classroom?

Each day includes an uninterrupted Montessori work cycle, enrichment activities like music and gardening, outdoor play, lunch and community time, and a rest period. The structure mirrors what your child will experience in Early Childhood, helping build familiarity and confidence ahead of their next transition.

How do you support toilet learning in Pre-EC?

Toilet learning is a true partnership between home and school. We encourage children to practice removing their own clothing and sitting on the toilet independently, and when a child shows signs of readiness, we work closely with families to introduce underwear or training pants consistently at both home and school.

How do I know if my child is ready to move from Pre-EC to Early Childhood?

We follow the child, not the calendar. Readiness is based on a combination of factors, including social-emotional maturity, independence, and developmental milestones. Our teachers observe each child closely and work with families to determine the right time for that next step.

How do you communicate with parents about my child's progress?

We use the Procare app to keep you connected throughout the day, along with a monthly newsletter and twice-yearly parent-teacher conferences. Our Director also maintains an open-door policy for any questions in between.

How do I enroll my child in the Pre-Early Childhood program?

The first step is scheduling a tour so you can see the classroom and meet our teachers. From there, we'll walk you through enrollment forms, required medical records, and a classroom visit for your child before their first day.
