Our Story
A Family Legacy of Montessori Education
Montessori has been part of our family’s story for more than 30 years.
In 1994, Montessori educator Kay Challa founded Sugar Mill Montessori with a simple belief: children thrive when they are respected, encouraged, and given the opportunity to learn through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
Twenty years later, Kay and her daughter, Shara, opened Meadow Montessori together, bringing that same authentic Montessori education and family-centered approach to Richmond, TX. Their vision was simple: create a school where children are respected as individuals, families are valued as partners, and learning is guided by curiosity rather than pressure.
Today, that vision comes to life through an incredible team of administrators, Montessori educators, and support staff who share the same commitment to helping every child feel seen, valued, and capable. Together, we celebrate first friendships, first discoveries, and the everyday moments that quietly build confidence—from a toddler mastering a zipper to a preschooler proudly reading their first book or solving a problem independently for the very first time.
As a family-owned Montessori school, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We believe the strongest schools are built on trust, open communication, and meaningful partnerships between families and educators. Every member of our team is committed to creating a welcoming community where children feel safe to explore, parents feel supported, and every child is truly known. As proud members of the American Montessori Society (AMS), we stay connected to a national community of Montessori educators — learning, collaborating, and bringing new ideas, best practices, and ongoing professional growth back to our classrooms in Richmond, TX.
While every stage of childhood looks different—from an infant’s first moments of independence to a kindergartener’s growing confidence—our purpose remains the same.
We hope every child leaves Meadow Montessori believing:
“I am capable.”
Because confidence doesn’t begin with being told you can do something.
It begins with discovering you already can.

Is Meadow Montessori Right for Your Family?
At Meadow, the difference isn’t found in any one classroom, lesson, or program. It’s found in the relationships we build, the confidence we nurture, and the joy your child discovers each day. Come see it for yourself.
What We Look for in Every Educator
Children thrive when they’re surrounded by caring, knowledgeable educators who believe in their potential. That’s why we’re intentional about every person who joins our team. We look for educators who:
- Respect every child as an individual
- Love learning and model that curiosity every day
- Encourage independence instead of doing things for children
- Build strong partnerships through open, honest communication with families
- Believe every child is capable and deserves the opportunity to grow at their own pace
That commitment doesn’t stop at hiring. As a proud member of the American Montessori Society (AMS), Meadow Montessori is connected to a national community of Montessori educators, giving our team opportunities to learn, collaborate, and stay current with best practices in authentic Montessori education.
Our lead teachers are Montessori-certified, and every member of our staff maintains current CPR and First Aid certification because creating a safe, nurturing environment is just as important as creating an exceptional learning experience.
